Jeffrey Douglas Moller is here!

Welcome Jeffrey Douglas Moller!!!

Yep! He's here...ALREADY! I gave birth to our son Friday night at 10:51pm. He was measuring small at my routine OB appt. (37 wks 2 dys) on Friday so they did an ultrasound and found that the placenta was failing to give him proper nutrients so he was not growing. My OB said, "We might have to deliver him today so you can start feeding him!" WHAT?!? Before I completely freaked out, I told the doc that I had plans to go to the temple after my appt. so he told me to go and come back after to talk with him once he ran the ultrasound by the perinatologist. In the temple, I prayed about having the baby today and felt complete peace. I knew Heavenly Father would take care of me and the baby. So, I went back to the OB office to get the official word and my doc said, "You're having your baby today!" I was SO glad I had time to go to the temple and pray about it and feel peace.
He told me the hospital would be calling any time so I needed to hurry and get home to pack my suitcase. I called Doug and filled him in on everything on my way home and just as I pulled into my garage, the hospital called and told me to come ASAP. I've never packed so fast in my life! I told my doc a few months back that I wanted to try going into labor on my own if possible, just to experience the whole spontaneous labor thing since I've been induced the last two times. He kinda laughed at me (I guess most women would prefer to have it planned out). When this happened, I told him, "Well, I guess this is as close as I can get to feeling the rush of spontaneous/unexpected labor! Thanks for that!" =)

Our little guy weighed in at just barely 5lbs. (9oz less than the ultrasound had estimated) and he measured 17 1/2 inches long. Just a bit larger than a peanut! For being "officially" full term (37+weeks), he sure didn't measure full term! Poor little dude. The doctor said he was glad we got him out now!
Being so small, his little lungs didn't work as well as we hoped. So, they took him down to the NICU and put him on oxygen and ran some tests. He had some air between his lungs and ribcage that was causing his left lung to slightly collapse and it was pushing his heart over. So, Saturday morning, they extracted about an ounce of air out of that area and it opened up his lungs to full capacity and his heart moved into the right spot. I don't know how long he'll have to be on the oxygen, but until he comes off, I won't be able to hold him. I told the nurse, "I'd really love to hold him on Mother's Day!" She said, "That's the goal!"
